Normally when I mention Waffle House, its because we have just left the bar and are in need of a place that offers delicious food at all hours of the night. The breakfast chain has always been proud about serving American style waffles, but today this menu option holds more importance. Today the 2014 FIFA World Cup continues and USA will take on Belgium. Waffle House’s official Twitter recently sent out a tweet that has now caused a social media frenzy, ending with an official boycott on Belgium waffles.
“We don’t believe in Belgium waffles,” is the tweet that started this waffle war. For those who are not breakfast food enthusiasts, a Belgium waffle is traditionally square and has larger indention pockets. The American waffle is round and has shallower indentations, that allow for better syrup flow. Even though Waffle House had no idea of the social media impact that their tweet would have, they are rolling with it and making sure USA knows they have their support today in the World Cup. Forget the pizza and the wings, today if you have the choice between American or Belgium waffles, make the right decision and show Belgium that USA is here to dominate!
