POP 5 Ways To Kick Off October

Today is October 1st and we are asking ourselves, “Where did Summer go?” The fact is we can’t change the season, so we are just going to have to accept that Fall is here. I know many of you are beyond excited for the Autumn season, the leaves are changing and the Halloween decor is in every store you walk into.

Let’s try to ignore the fact that it’s only October 1st and the Christmas decorations are almost pushing out the Halloween merchandise. For those who are not exactly ready for winter festivies, allow me to help you embrace the current season and provide ideas to help kick-start your October. Check out THEPOPFIX’s POP5 Ways To Kick-Off October.

5. Pumpkin Spice Latte

You may have noticed the lines at Starbucks are way longer than usual, that’s because the Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back. What has almost become the staple of the Autumn season, is now the go to seasonal drink. Like myself, there are many who are not even aware of what is in the Pumpkin Spice latte, thankfully The Huffington Post has given us the ingredient breakdown. While I haven’t jumped on this trend, I will still gladly join you and I’ll just have a hot chocolate…or we can walk a few doors down and grab an Oktoberfest flavored alcoholic-beverage.

4. Decorate

This is one of the best ways to get in the spirit of October, is to put up seasonal decor. This doesn’t mean you have to go all out and cover your house with Halloween lights and sync them to “What Does The Fox Say.” Instead rake up some leaves and put them in those giant orange bags that have the faces of a jack-o-lantern’ on them. You also can grab the always fun, yet sometimes messy, fake spider webs and create a spooky entrance alongside some gourds and a fake black cat. The holiday falls on the last day of the month, so take advantage and be festive all month long.

3. Fall Foliage

If you are lucky enough like me to live in The Great Smoky Mountains, October is prime leaf season. This is when all the leaves on the trees slowly change from green to yellow or red, and sadly then to brown. There is nothing better than driving through one of the many National parks in America and looking at the fall foliage. If you are really having a hard time with the transition from Summer to Fall, this is a great way to let the pure beauty persuade you.

2. Haunted Houses

Let’s be honest here, the idea of a haunted house sounds awesome, but if we truly get terrified in front of our friends we are forever embarrassed. There are so many popular haunted houses and mazes across the country now, that even the king of horror movies can be frightened. Theme parks like Universal Studios have really taken advantage of the Halloween season and have fright nights, where the theme park comes alive at night with terrifying creatures from our favorite stories, TV shows, and movies. Ellen DeGeneres loves to send her staff through these. If you are too afraid to enter one yourself, enjoy the great laughs that come from watching these videos.

1. Movies

Yes I am talking about you ABC Family and your “13 Nights of Halloween.” October gives you all the excuses to watch your favorite Halloween-themed movies. There is just something about the colder air and the darker nights that create that eerie feeling that pairs perfectly with a creepy thriller or horror film. While some may go right for the cult classic films like “Halloween” or “House of 1000 Corpses” others chose more colorful films like “Hokus Pocus” or “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
